Lone Wolf in Pub has now swapped coasts (left for right), and has mostly graduated from the Aero masters program at Poly. He is currently employed as an aeronautical engineer over there, though he has been known to return to San Luis Obispo on occasion.

With MNA, he's been active with the [[anime trivia]] games, [[Livesubs|transcribing subtitles]] for new shows, cosplaying and going to some cons. The lore goes that it is not wise to offer him much saki, as he was one of the [[Challenges|Tsurugi's Challengers]], and attempted to remove someone's eyeball with chopsticks, but we'll leave things at that.

Open House is a time when all the clubs come together to sell food and promote themselves. Promoting themselves meaning, doing very crazy things.

In 2006-07, the officers decided it would be very cool to follow the Open House theme (theme? there's a theme??? since when??)

The theme is; NAUTICAL ADVENTURES (or something like that)

The club will be going all out with a [[One Piece]] theme.

Livesub

Livesubs are the output from a computer overlaying subtitles over [[raw]] [[R2]] DVDs, generated live without re-encoding video files. The subtitle scripts are either written from scratch or transcribed subs from [[Digisub|digisubs]]. Livesubs were introduced to the club by [[Dylan Hall]] in 2001 with [[Revolutionary Girl Utena - Adolescence of Utena]], and the process was simplified by [[Nur Monson]] with his altered VirtualDub program, which he called [http://www.theidiotproject.com/programs/virtualsub.html VirtualSub].

This process was introduced to help those in the club not fluent in Japanese understand the subtitle-lacking R2s some members collected, without the need to record new DVDs or VHS tapes with subtitles included. It has allowed the club make use of the more wealthy members' collections, as well as side-step some members' concerns about the legitimacy of [[digisub|digisubs]].

Some years ago, Minna No Anime members realized they could be social more than once a week. Somehow, Pictionary was decided as the game of choice for extra entertainment on random afteroons and evenings of gathering. Initially, the standard cards were used, and the rules were followed, with two teams battling for title of the most witty. Then (with the help of alcohol), the rules were broken and the teams split, leading to people drawing random things of no real relevance to the real world. Sometimes anime themes were followed, other times it was purely surreal. There is no real rhyme or reason to the times and dates of Pictionary Parties, though there was the attempt to have them quarterly. Sometimes that worked, sometimes it didn't.

''Digisub'' refer to digital subtitled videos, most often distributed online. They were made more reasonable from higher bandwidth, larger hard-drives and cheaper CDr technologies of the late 1990s and 2000s, following the RealMedia and [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vivoactive VivoActive] videos of the years prior. Digisubs follow the earlier phases of fansubs copied on VHS tapes, most commonly made with Amiga's JACOsub or the Windows Substation Alpha. == (Makeshift) History ==
Anime made it's way from Japan to the United States and elsewhere via VHS tapes, subtitled by fans and copied by other fans. VHS degradation made later generation copies harder to read, and the limited interest in anime kept the concerns of IP theft to a very minimum.

Somewhere in the mid 90s, [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VivoActive VivoActive] videos of anime were passed around, but they were about the size of a postage stamp. We don't really want to remember that era.

Jump ahead to the New Millennium, with faster internet speeds, larger hard-drives and such.

R2 refers to the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_region_code DVD Region code] affixed on most Japanese DVDs. Region 2 refers to The Middle East, Western Europe, Central Europe, Egypt, French overseas territories, Greenland, Japan, Lesotho, South Africa and Swaziland.

Region codes limit the ability for DVDs playback by player, though there are workarounds for some players, and other players ignore region coding all-together.

Secretary in 2k1, Dylan was another major contributor in clubs evolution.
As caustic as his personality was, Dylan (along with Ben) went out of his
way to make club better, devoting who knows how many hours of his free time
to stream-line and improve club.

Notable achievements: Provided first live-sub for club (starting the
entire trend), responsible for the most lazy and offensive, yet absolutely
hilarious costumes at Halloween ("Shinji in search of Asuka" being the
best/worst example), Spent ridiculous amounts of time perfecting scripts
for live-subbing (especially in Infinite Ryvius), making some of the most
asinine and difficult trivia questions, writing club news-letters that
surpassed several pages in length, donating a metric CRAPLOAD of stuff to
club.

How do you spot him: Usually donning a leather jacket, jeans and a San
Francisco Giants cap, Dylan is easy to spot when he's a civilian.

He's currently enlisted in the US Navy and can be found aboard a nuclear
sub half of the year.

Officer, Dylan is an Officer in the Navy not enlisted. He's also the one who got me hooked on Manga. We were watching Monty Python and I picked up his Maison books out of curiousity and was hooked.

Dylan also started the trend of writing lengthy rants / comments in the weekly club emails. His acerbic style was followed by some future secretaries, but not all. The club would have been much more tame without him. Oh, those were the days. Also called R2D2, for his huge collection of R2 DVDs.

== Who I Am ==
I've (mostly) graduated from Cal Poly now, after changing my major near the end of my first (Landscape Architecture to City & Regional Planning), and now employed with the County of San Luis Obispo. I haven't gone to the club in a long time, due to the schedule conflicting with my other weekend plans (KCPR and volunteering elsewhere). I think it was [[Ahmad Jamshid "K" Amini|K]] who got me into MNA at first, though it might have been a mutual interest in anime that got us going.

=== Me and Anime ===
I started watching anime back in high school, waking up for the early morning showings of dubbed movies on the Sci Fi channel or renting tapes from local movie rental places. Minna hooked me on more shows and a bit of manga, and I went to a few cons (Fanime once, AX a few times), even cosplaying (because it's grand fun to put on fake eyebrows =) Being librarian was fun, as I got to take the tapes home, where I saw the vast majority of the ''Future Boy Conan''.

My anime watching has rather petered out, but not for a dislike of anime (I still own some random DVDs, and the [[Cowboy Bebop|Bebop]] movie OST + CD3" -- oh [[TokyoPop]], you used to have such great loot sales). The most recent "anime" I've watched has been Avatar: Last of the Airbenders. Yeah, Americanized anime, but it's fairly well written and kinda fun.

=== Other Stuff about Me ===
I was at Cal Poly for about 8 years, and I was active in the Week Of Welcome orientation program at the beginning of each year, eventually getting involved as a Staff In Charge (aka Spending Too Much Time On Campus). Now that I've mostly graduated (still waiting on some grade changes =\ ), I don't come on campus that much, but I still read the MNA mailing list postings.

Currently a major name in manga publishing, I first knew of TokyoPop
because of their crazy "hey, would you like to by stuff that we found
in someone else's moving truck?" sales, where they would apparently
lose money on odd manga issues and DVD sets to increase sales of the
rest of the series'. They used to lurk outside of AX, offering cheap
promos to get otaku to remember their name - like annoying "squishy
ball on a string" and other cheap toys. It was the first place I
