This wiki is an UNOFFICIAL attempt by current and former members to record the history of Cal Poly's Anime Club. This project is an attempt to document the history of Cal Poly's Anime Club for current, former, and future members and officers. It is still a growing wiki, so may not always have the complete story. If you have information not in the wiki, please make any changes or additions you desire (you must register on the [https://www.mnalibrary.org/forum/ MnA forum] and [[Special:Userlogin|log in]] to the wiki to edit pages or email other users -- we know it's a pain but it stops the spambots from taking over when we're not looking).

The fool who realized why the Wasabi challenge (see [[challenges]]) was banned, just to do it again 2 quarters later. He was known for editing the wiki before becoming a scribe, which caused some annoyance for the scribe of the time. After becoming an officer, he turned into the unsleeping mod. This was due to his nocturnal sleeping habits resulting in him being the only mod on Discord late into the night. He was sometimes also seen on in the mornings due to not sleeping. Some came to wonder if he ever sleeps. Sometimes he edits the wiki during this time (like right now). He is also known for strange eating habits, such as exclusively eating instant ramen and oatmeal for 2 months during summer 2019. One meal of note contained: Top Ramen, Lemon Heads, soy sauce, and Mini-Wheats all mixed into one bowl. He ate half and then stopped his 2 month-long streak of ramen eating.

A standout freshman during the dark times of virtual schooling, Thomas quickly rose to become the webmaster in his second year at Cal Poly. He is known for founding and organizing the [[Gang Gintama]] group in club, even getting a custom emote on the server for it. He hosted other nonofficial club events such as a group watching of the "hit" show Ex-Arm and Initial D. Tomas is also well known for his enthusiasm for DND, as well as the word "kino." The latter may as well be his catchphrase at this point.

A noteworthy talent of his is that he can recite the entirety of the opening sequence to Skyrim. Ask him about it sometime.

It is still unknown exactly what his job as Vice President was. He is known by his height, beard that clings to his Irish roots, and being a basketball player in high school. Although only starting anime in high school, he opened a tear in the time-space continuum to conquer many shows. Known as the lord and savior of anime club, he came to us in our time of need. The fool who realized why the Wasabi challenge (see [[challenges]]) was banned, just to do it again 2 quarters later. He was known for editing the wiki before becoming a scribe, which caused some annoyance for the scribe of the time. After becoming an officer, he turned into the unsleeping mod. This was due to his nocturnal sleeping habits resulting in him being the only mod on Discord late into the night. He was sometimes also seen on in the mornings due to not sleeping. Some came to wonder if he ever sleeps. Sometimes he edits the wiki during this time (like right now). He is also known for strange eating habits, such as exclusively eating instant ramen and oatmeal for 2 months during summer 2019. ==Origin==

Raysen is an emote that was created back in September of 2021, when a couple of officers from the club decided to go on a trip to Santa Maria with some of the new freshmen that year to visit the Mall, and more notably, World 1-1 Games, a local video game store. While at the mall, former president [[Kellen Dobson]] and former vice president [[Jonathan Skelly]] found a odd Raisin piggy-bank at an antique store. Of course, this figure was part of the Claymation series made for the California Raisins commericals. Finding the figure hilarious, the duo decided to take a picture of the figure and would request that it would be made into a emote. Eventually, the picture became an emote on the server. Eventually, the emote was called "Raysen," because of the large sunglasses the raisin is wearing.

==2021 White Elephant Gift Exchange==

At Minna's gift exchange for the year, the then current president [[Wesley Deffenbaugh]] decided to track down a copy of Raysen to be exchanged at the gift exchange. At the gift exchange, [[Andrew Harris]] was the soul who first picked Raysen, although he had a puzzled look on his face because of the clinking noise it made (which was Wesley's spare pocket change). As soon as the box was opened up, [[Kellen Dobson]] exclaimed "That's the original Raysen?!?,"" and regretted his previous pick of bootleg DVDs. Throughout the night, Raysen would switch hands to Kellen, who then lost it to [[Michael Hendricks]], who promptly gave it back to Andrew at the dismay of Kellen. However, Kellen would have the last laugh, and he would steal Raysen back from Andrew and take it to his apartment, where it would stay for a while.

==30th Anniversary Party==

An anonymous person was able to steal back Raysen from Kellen's apartment, and it was put for sale at the 30th's Silent Auction. Almost immediately, [[Tomas Ludin]] would put down $25 for the figure, rising the tensions. After that, [[Justin Rosescu]] would bid $26 dollars, where Raysen would stay for the majority of the anniversary party. On the final day of the party, the outstanding bids were finished in a live auction format, as to speed up the process. A bidding war between Tomas and Justin ensued, with the prices reaching nearly threefold. However, [[Alexander Fung]] would make a bold move after hearing that Justin would leave Raysen in the Mojave Desert, placing a new bid that outdid Justin's.

Soon after that, a flurry of people either went to Justin or Alex, offering them monetary support. The bids skyrocketed and eventually plateaued at $260, ten times the original bid. Alex's faction ended up winning, and it was decided that Raysen would stay in his home in San Luis Obispo, much to the approval of [[Kellen Dobson]], who had initially exclaimed "The Raysen Stays in SLO!" Reportedly, Zoey spent a good amount of their funds on Raysen so they couldn't do laundry that week. Considering the original cost of Raysen was $5.39 according to Wesley, this chronicle goes to show how much Minna no Anime's members care about the club.

Raysen is an emote that was created back in September of 2021, when a couple of officers from the club decided to go on a trip to Santa Maria with some of the new freshmen that year to visit the Mall, and more notably, World 1-1 Games, a local video game store. While at the mall, former president [[Kellen Dobson]] and former vice president [[Jonathan Skelly]] found a odd Raisin piggy-bank at an antique store. Of course, this figure was part of the Claymation series made for the California Raisins commericals. Finding the figure hilarious, the duo decided to take a picture of the figure and would request that it would be made into a emote. Eventually, the picture became an emote on the server. Eventually, the emote was called "Raysen," because of the large sunglasses the raisin is wearing.

'''2021 White Elephant Gift Exchange'''

At Minna's gift exchange for the year, the then current president [[Wesley Deffenbaugh]] decided to track down a copy of Raysen to be exchanged at the gift exchange. At the gift exchange, [[Andrew Harris]] was the soul who first picked Raysen, although he had a puzzled look on his face because of the clinking noise it made (which was Wesley's spare pocket change). As soon as the box was opened up, [[Kellen Dobson]] exclaimed "That's the original Raysen?!?,"" and regretted his previous pick of bootleg DVDs. Throughout the night, Raysen would switch hands to Kellen, who then lost it to [[Michael Hendricks]], who promptly gave it back to Andrew at the dismay of Kellen. However, Kellen would have the last laugh, and he would steal Raysen back from Andrew and take it to his apartment, where it would stay for a while.

== History of the T-Shirts ==
The first T-shirt we still have record of was designed in 1992. Yang, a member of PolyInk as well, was a gifted artist, and drew the "Knight of Gold" T-Shirt, seperations and all. These seperations are still in the posession of Minna no Anime officers. The design was taken directly from a promotional image for [[Five Star Stories]]. The next year Jann started the t-shirt contest, and also instituted the rule that there would be no copyrighted images allowed.

Former presidents [[Ron Neal]] and [[Josh Holmstrom]] have mentioned that while there were no shirts for the 1994-1995 year, there were shirts before this. If anyone still has one of these, or of any other designs we are missing, we would LOVE to see pictures!

Usually, the contest is held sometime in late Winter Quarter or early Spring Quarter in hopes that the T-Shirts may be printed before [[Open House]]. This way we can all proudly wear and show our new shiny T-Shirts off to all the potential new members!

==Introduction==
Shawn Singh Budwal (Born November 18, 1999) is the current Secretary of Minna no Anime. He started his work as an officer as Webmaster in 2018 and served as such until 2021. He was preceded by [[Hannah Wilkins]] and succeeded by [[Tomas Ludin]]. After this, he was elected Secretary for the [[2021-2022]] school year. His notable accomplishments include extensive collaborative organizational work for club events (such as the annual Halloween Party and 30th Anniversary Party) and the complete aesthetic overhaul of the Minna no Anime website. He has received attention within the club for his idiosyncratic way of expressing himself, key phrases, and iconic quotes. He is also memorable as an openly-homosexual member of club, as well as being of Indian descent.

Shawn Budwal grew up in Folsom, California. He attended Folsom High School and entered Cal Poly San Luis Obispo as an Animal Science major in 2017, but switched to Biological Sciences in 2019 with a concentration in Wildlife Biology and Biodiversity Conservation. He joined Minna no Anime at the Halloween Party during his freshman year, and was appointed as the next Webmaster in winter quarter. While having no significant involvement with computing before his appointment, his officership has suffered no problems of consequence due to this prior inexperience. There was, however, an unrelated incident in which his moderation abilities on the Minna no Anime Discord server were removed (and later restored). Despite this, he is one of the most active individuals on the platform and is a key part of social interactions, outside of an official hiatus during Spring 2021. He began running weekly Trivia Nights at Thursday Hangout meetings during Winter 2022.

==Early Life & Personality==
Shawn Budwal was born in San Jose, California, on November 18th, 1999. However, his family moved to Folsom, California, a few years later and have remained there ever since. Growing up, he participated in recreational soccer, swim, and theater and was very involved in the Boy Scouts of America - where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. If asked, he would describe his hometown of Folsom as a “bubble” and “the pinnacle of White suburbia.” He struggles with issues of self-esteem and fitting into social groups, which stem from his elementary and middle school experiences. He has described his middle school years as the worst time of his life. Budwal realized that he wasn’t heterosexual when he was a sophomore in high school, although he acknowledges that he may have started to become aware of his true sexuality at an earlier time. He currently identifies as gay, although his sexuality can be more fluid at times. At the end of the Winter 2021 quarter, he came out to his parents. Prior to this point, he had only been open about his sexuality with his friends and the MnA community. Along with this, he has been in a committed relationship with another club member since the Fall quarter of his freshman year (2017).

Budwal is 5’9” (although he claims that it depends on who measures him) with brown skin, naturally black hair, and glasses with black or clear frames. During the fall quarter of junior year, he started to experiment with dying his hair, leading to an iconic school year where he had red hair. He also wears a metal bracelet on his right wrist to signify his religious status as a Sikh. He has a self-diagnosed obsession with jackets, and lamented once about how he could not bring all of the ones he owns to his dormitory room. His favorite color is red - and it’s the color he tends to wear most.

Budwal is known for being a self-described “himbo, but not attractive… just dumb and loud.” His main strengths are his honesty, passion, and level of commitment, but he has been criticized for being overly emotional and spiteful at times. His comedy often relies on his weird and wacky charm, self-deprecation, and obscure references. Generally speaking, his bizarre speech patterns and sarcastic tone can either be entertaining or frustrating depending on the conversation. This has led to him getting into heated discussions with certain members of the club with some frequency. With that said, he is very open to personal conversations, and discloses his mental, physical, and emotional struggles in public settings with notable ease. In his words, he is “not here to lie to people, or hide anything.”

==Anime==
Introduction to Anime:

Budwal considers himself to have been deeply engaged with anime on three separate occasions before realizing his love for the medium. The first was his childhood, when he would watch whatever cartoons on TV. Some of these included anime, such as Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh!, but the first series he ever completed was Dinosaur King. However, he does not consider this to be when he became attached to anime, since these were the 4Kids localized broadcasts. His family was not subscribed to channels that aired mature series such as Adult Swim and he wasn’t even aware that these shows were categorized as anime.

The second occasion was in middle school. His school library contained several manga series, including Fruits Basket and Naruto. The former was the first manga series he ever completed, and he also watched all of the 2001 adaptation. Although he didn’t complete the latter due to a lack of volumes at the school, he did get far into the series and watched some of the anime as well. However, after engaging with these two series, he had no significant interaction with anime or manga until his high school years.

The third instance in which he became involved with anime was during his sophomore and junior years of high school. Having knowledge of the Corpse Party video game series, he watched the OVAs, but he does not attribute this to sparking his interest in anime since he does not have a positive opinion of the adaptation. After this, he completed Your Lie in April, but again, does not associate it with getting invested in anime. To him, it was Death Parade that convinced him to watch more anime. When he finished it, he thought to himself, “this seems like something that I need to get into,” in regards to anime in general. He watched more series throughout his later high school years, and started keeping up with seasonals after joining the club.

Favorite Series:

Budwal considers many different series to be among his “favorites.” However, if he were to narrow it down to his top 9 TV shows, they would be Nichijou, Mononoke, Baccano!, Haikyuu!!, the Monogatari Series, Land of the Lustrous (of which he also keeps up with the manga), 3-gatsu no Lion, Katanagatari, and Hibike! Euphonium.

However, he would include Mushishi, Death Parade, Tatami Galaxy (+ The Night is Short, Walk on Girl), Cowboy Bebop, Mob Psycho 100, Space Dandy, Mawaru Penguindrum, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Hyouka, Millennium Actress, In This Corner of the World, Paranoia Agent, Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu, Durarara!!, Konosuba!, Fate, Little Witch Academia, Kill la Kill, The Count of Monte Cristo, Wolf Children, My Hero Academia, Lupin III (but edgy), And Yet the Town Moves, Hellsing Ultimate, and Haibane Renmei in his overall favorites.

He considers his favorite studios to be Kyoto Animation, BONES, Orange, and Trigger.

== History of the T-Shirts ==
The first T-shirt we still have record of was designed in 1992. Yang, a member of PolyInk as well, was a gifted artist, and drew the "Knight of Gold" T-Shirt, seperations and all. These seperations are still in the posession of Minna no Anime officers. The design was taken directly from a promotional image for [[Five Star Stories]]. The next year Jann started the t-shirt contest, and also instituted the rule that there would be no copyrighted images allowed.

Former presidents [[Ron Neal]] and [[Josh Holmstrom]] have mentioned that while there were no shirts for the 1994-1995 year, there were shirts before this. If anyone still has one of these, or of any other designs we are missing, we would LOVE to see pictures!

== T-Shirt Contest ==
Every year [[Minna no Anime]] holds a T-Shirt contest and its members vote on the various designs that are submitted. Usually, the contest is held sometime in late Winter Quarter or early Spring Quarter in hopes that the T-Shirts may be printed before [[Open House]]. This way we can all proudly wear and show our new shiny T-Shirts off to all the potential new members!

The shirt colors you have to choose from can be found at this page. You can just turn in a design on white paper and choose a different color for the shirt, if you want. It just makes voting easier if everyone has a good idea of how it will look on the shirt.
*Ok, you don't need color separations unless your design is chosen. If your design is chosen, you will then have two weeks to get your seperations done for us. For that they need to be finished on a computer, in a relatively high resolution. if you can do it in a vector format that would be ideal, but not required.
